Create a Project Extension

A Project Extension an existing Live Project can be created when a Client requests additional services that were not included in the scope of your original Project. When Project Extensions are set up they will automatically link to the original Live Project and use the Project Number of the original Project, with a suffix (e.g. 1001a, 1001b etc). This article will outline the steps to take to create a Project Extension.

In this article, you'll learn how to:

  • Extend a Project in the Projects tab
  • Create a new Project Extension

Extend a Project in the Projects tab

  1. From your Dashboard, go to the Projects tab and click Live Projects.
  2. You will be taken to the Live Projects area. Click on the Project No-Title that you wish to extend.

  3. Click on the Actions menu on the right-hand side. Select Extend this Project.

  4. You will be asked if you are sure you want to extend this project. Click Yes.

  5. Your Project Extension will now appear in the Projects tab.

The Project Extension will be renamed as “Extension of” and will be given a letter after the original Project Code.

You can edit the name by clicking on the pencil icon.

Create a new Project Extension (PSA Edition)

  1. From your Dashboard, you can access the Pipeline tab by clicking either the CRM or Projects tab. You will be taken to your Potentials area.
  2. Click on the  icon. A pop-up box will appear. Click Project Extension.
  3.  In the text box, begin to type either the Project Code or Title that you would like to extend and click Create Extension.

You will be taken to the extended Project Details page, where you will notice that the project has been named “Extension of” and been given a letter after the original Project code.

You can rename the Project by clicking on the pencil icon.

Hey presto! You have now created a Project Extension. This will appear in the Pipeline tab, where you can build out a budget and then show when it has been won or lost. Once the project has been won and went live, you can then view the original project and its extension within the Budget vs Actuals tab.
