Customise Portfolio Boxes

CMap’s Portfolios tool is a simple way to report on a collection of Projects based on a theme. With the CMap Pro Plan, you can use Report Builder tool to enhance the Portfolios functionality further still, by publishing your own custom Portfolio boxes to the Portfolio Page.

In this article, we’ll look at:

  • Create the Portfolio Box
  • Publish the Portfolio Box

Create the Portfolio Box

1. From your Dashboard, head to the Reports Select Report Builder.

2. Click  on the left-hand side of the screen.

3. On the left-hand side of the screen, click to select your Report Type from the drop-down list.

You cannot use Report Types that are Companies, Contacts Groups, Contacts, People, Rate Cards, Targets or Time Off for Portfolio boxes.

4. Complete the Report Details fields:



Report Title

This is the name of the Report.


Enter guidance/information on the purpose of the Report.

5. Now you can add any Basic or Calculated data to the following fields:



Preset Filters

The Preset Filters will pre-filter the data before it is accessed by the end user.

Note: Certain Preset Filters cannot be used in conjunction with a Portfolio box. If you include any of these, a warning will be shown and the preset filters which aren't compatible will be removed.

User Filters

The User Filters enable the end-user to filter the report each time it is run on a case-by-case basis, as required.



The basic columns that will appear in the report. The ordering of the fields will also be replicated within the Custom Report.


Column Groups

The Column Groups feature can be used to create more advanced Custom Reports. The first field added will be used to group the subsequent fields that are added.


6. Add a Global Date Range to either a Preset Filter or a User Filter if required. This filter can be used to add a specific data range to the report.

Publish the Portfolio Box

Once you have created the Custom Dashboard, the “Tools” section of Report Builder is where you should head next.

1. Click the Tools menu and select Publish Report. A pop-up box will appear.

2. From the drop-down list, select Publish as a Portfolio Box. Enter the Width and Height of the Portfolio Box then click Save.

Hey presto! When you go into the Portfolio Page Layout admin tool and select to add new Portfolio boxes, your new custom portfolio box will be available for selection.
